Imphal, July 26 -- Jubilant scenes unfolded across Manipur today as Olympic medallist Saikhom Mirabai Chanu clinched a historic third consecutive Commonwealth Games gold medal, while fellow Manipuri weightlifter Chanambam Rishikanta Singh added to the celebrations by winning a silver medal at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Mirabai, competing in the women's 48kg category, delivered a dominant performance by lifting a total of 190kg (85kg in snatch and 105kg in clean & jerk). In the process, she rewrote the Commonwealth Games record books by setting new Games records in both the snatch and clean & jerk en route to India's first gold medal of the 2026 edition.
