Imphal, March 3 -- A citizens' collective has submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister seeking the immediate suspension of development activities at Koirengei Airfield, citing its exceptional historical and national significance and warning of irreversible damage to a World War II-era landscape.

The historic airfield is taken over by the Army and massive construction has started. The memorandum was submitted by the Citizens for the Protection and Preservation of Koirengei Airfield (CPPKAF), a non-political civic body formed after consultations among concerned citizens, historians, research scholars and local residents.
