Chirrakoot, Aug. 30 -- The Mandakini River flood in Chitrakoot has become catastrophic in Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh.
Two helicopters and SDRF teams are engaged in the rescue operation. So far, over 60 people have been rescued and airlifted by choppers.
According to officials, more than 60 people had been rescued and shifted to safe locations by late evening on August 29. Villagers in Gobariya village of the Bharatpur area were evacuated safely. Their livestock was also rescued and shifted to secure locations.
The river is flowing at a record approximately 7.5 metres above the danger mark. Every floor of the houses built near the river has been submerged.
