London, July 28 -- Manchester City confirmed on Tuesday that midfielder Rodri has undergone successful back surgery and will begin rehabilitation, with no timetable set for his return.

The Premier League club said the Spain international had been experiencing discomfort in his back for some time before undergoing the procedure.

"The surgery was successful and Rodri will now begin a short period of rehabilitation," City said in a statement.

City coach Enzo Maresca had said earlier that Rodri needed time to rest and recover before returning to the squad.
