Kuala Lumpur, Sept. 4 -- Wildfires in neighbouring Indonesia are having wider regional implications, with Malaysia declaring an emergency in part of Sarawak on Borneo island after thick haze from forest and peatland fires pushed air pollution levels above 500, the Prime Minister's Office said.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim also stated that the decalaration of emergency has been approved by Malaysia's King, Sultan Ibrahim.
Meanwhile, authorities have been tirelessly working to contain the worsening haze and protect residents.
