Srinagar, April 8 -- A major terror incident was averted in south Kashmir's Shopian district after security forces recovered and neutralised an improvised explosive device (IED) during a joint operation on Wednesday, Army saidThey said the IED recovery was made along with Jammu and Kashmir Police during a joint operation near Chitragam in the Zainapora area.

Army said the IED weighed approximately 14.5 kilograms and was packed with high explosives. It was reportedly fitted with a remote triggering mechanism.

Bomb disposal teams were immediately pressed into action, and the device was "surgically handled" before being destroyed in a controlled explosion, preventing any casualties or damage.
