Dharamshala, May 10 -- Around 12 passengers travelling in a Punjab Roadways bus had a close shave when the vehicle lost its rear wheel along with the hub in Himachal Pradesh's Kangra district, officials said on Sunday.

The accident happened near the Samela railway crossing bridge late Saturday night.

The Dharamshala-bound bus was coming from Chandigarh.

The incident occurred around 10 pm when the bus belonging to the Nangal depot was passing beneath the railway track bridge near a sharp bend at Samela in the outskirts of Kangra town. The driver sensed a technical failure after the rear wheel detached from the moving bus and immediately applied the brakes, bringing the vehicle to a halt in the middle of the road.
