Chandigarh, March 21 -- In a significant blow to cross-border narcotics trafficking, the Punjab Police's Counter Intelligence (CI) wing, in a coordinated effort with the Border Security Force (BSF), thwarted a major smuggling attempt in the Fazilka sector.

The joint operation led to the recovery of 6.5 kg of heroin near the Border Outpost (BOP) GG-2, situated in the village of Mahtam Nagar.

Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav confirmed the development on Saturday, stating that the action is part of the ongoing intensified drive to eliminate the drug menace in the state.
