Chandigarh, June 1 -- The Punjab government on Monday carried out a major reshuffle in the police department, transferring 14 officers, including the removal of Amritsar Rural SSP Suhail Qasim Mir, who had recently been in the spotlight following the controversy involving Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia.

Mir was heading the district when a case was registered against Majithia and several others over allegations of forcibly entering the Majitha police station and attempting to secure the release of an accused. The officer has not been assigned a fresh posting so far. SP Kanwaljit Singh has been given charge of Amritsar Rural in the interim.
