Pune, March 26 -- : Athletes must maintain a proper balance of diet and hydration during the summer to safeguard their health, as rising temperatures and body heat generated during sports activities can lead to heatstroke, said Dr. Amol Saptarshi.
He emphasized that careful planning of nutrition and water intake is essential to avoid such risks. Fresh fruit juices, traditional drinks like sherbet, and juicy fruits are highly recommended during this season. Continuous sweating in summer leads to a loss of essential salts in the body, which may cause muscle pain.
To counter this, consumption of coconut water and drinks with adequate salt content can be beneficial.
