Nagpur, April 27 -- : Maharashtra recorded 9,259 road accidents in the first three months of 2026, claiming 3,858 lives, highlighting persistent concerns over road safety, according to data released by the state transport departmentOf the total accidents reported between January and March, 3,594 were fatal.

On average, the state witnessed 103 accidents daily, including around 40 fatal mishaps, resulting in about 43 deaths per day.

In comparison, the same period in 2025 saw 9,385 accidents, including 3,878 fatal incidents, with a death toll of 4,179.

The latest figures indicate a marginal decline in both accidents and fatalities year-on-year.
