Mumbai, Aug. 4 -- In a major escalation of legal troubles for the opposition, former Maharashtra Home Minister and Nationalist Congress Party (SP) leader Anil Deshmukh is facing a fresh hurdle as the Maharashtra Governor has granted official sanction to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to prosecute him in the high-profile Rs 100-crore money laundering and corruption case.
During a hearing, ED's special public prosecutor Sunil Gonsalves informed the special PMLA court in Mumbai that the Governor granted the prosecution sanction on May 21, 2026, paving the way for the formal framing of charges and the commencement of trial proceedings.
