Mumbai, July 1 -- The Maharashtra government has announced a stern crackdown on unauthorised In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) centres and illegal sonography clinics involved in gender-determination activities, with Health Minister Prakash Abitkar declaring that the state will invoke the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against the perpetrators.
Speaking during the ongoing monsoon session of the State Legislative Assembly on Wednesday, Abitkar informed the House that the government is committed to dismantling organised syndicates running such illicit operations.
He announced that the necessary legal provisions to apply MCOCA to these offences will be introduced in the upcoming session.
