Nagpur, July 31 -- : The Marathi Patrakar Parishad has strongly opposed the Maharashtra government's decision to restrict the purchase of printed newspapers for the offices and official residences of ministers and ministers of state, describing it as an attempt to undermine the reading culture and print media in the name of expenditure cuts.
Parishad chief trustee S M Deshmukh said the government was seeking to save lakhs of rupees by stopping newspapers at ministers' offices and residences, but it should also consider the proportion of such expenditure in the state's overall budget.
The government has advised ministers and ministers of state to read online editions instead of printed newspapers.
