Nagpur, April 28 -- In a move aimed at curbing child marriages, the Maharashtra State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MSCPCR) has issued a directive making it mandatory to print the dates of birth of both the bride and groom on wedding invitation cards, official sources said on Tuesday.
The Commission took serious note of increasing instances of minor girls becoming mothers and stressed the need for stricter preventive measures.
It observed that displaying the birth dates on invitation cards would enable authorities and the public to verify the age of the couple and help prevent underage marriages.
