Mumbai, July 7 -- In a decisive move to curb the proliferation of illegal dance bars, the Maharashtra Assembly on Tuesday passed a major amendment aimed at sealing the "orchestra loophole" that has long allowed establishments to bypass strict state regulations.
The Bill, titled the 'Maharashtra Police Act and Maharashtra Prohibition of Obscene Dance in Hotels, Restaurants and Bar Rooms and Protection of Dignity of Women (Working Therein) Act, 2026', was passed by a majority vote. The legislation seeks to bridge regulatory gaps that have historically allowed some establishments to bypass anti-obscenity laws.
