Mumbai, July 6 -- The Maharashtra Legislative Assembly was adjourned for the day on Monday as torrential rains and gale-force winds continued to batter Mumbai and the surrounding districts, bringing daily life to a standstill.
The decision to suspend proceedings was taken in view of the India Meteorological Department's (IMD) 'Red Alert' for the region and the worsening weather conditions.
Following heated exchanges between the treasury and opposition benches over rain-related fatalities in the state, Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar adjourned the house. Speaking in the assembly, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis emphasised that the situation is "unprecedented", with gusty winds expected to reach speeds of 70-90 kmph.
