Amravati, Sept. 10 -- An alleged member of the Zulfikar Behlim gang died at a government hospital here after falling critically ill inside the Amravati Central Jail, officials said on Thursday.
The deceased, identified as Adil Nadeem Qureshi (36), was among 17 alleged members of the gang arrested by the Mumbai Crime Branch in connection with an alleged attempt to extort Rs 25 lakh from a Mumbai-based builder.
Following their arrest, the accused were lodged in different jails across the state, with Qureshi being sent to Amravati Central Jail.
According to prison officials, Qureshi complained of sudden illness on Wednesday morning after consuming tea and biscuits.
He subsequently started bleeding from his mouth.
