Pune, May 31 -- In view of the seriousness of the toxic liquor tragedy, the investigation has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
So far, eight suspects have been arrested in a joint operation conducted by the police and the State Excise Department.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the illegally manufactured liquor contained methanol, which is believed to have caused multiple deaths. Investigating agencies are now conducting an extensive probe into the illegal liquor network operating across Pune city, Pune rural, and Pimpri-Chinchwad.
