Mumbai, Feb. 21 -- Maharashtra will enter its Budget session beginning February 23 without Leader of the Opposition (LoP), marking an unprecedented situation in the state's legislative history as the position remains vacant in both the Legislative Assembly and the Council.
The 15th Assembly was formed following the 2024 Assembly elections, and its inaugural session took place in December 2024. Conventionally, the Leader of the Opposition is chosen during the first session.
However, the appointment has not been finalised as the Assembly Speaker has kept the matter pending, referring to the rule that the largest opposition party must command at least 10 per cent of the total strength of the House to qualify for the post.
