Nagpur, July 22 -- : Maharashtra Police is grappling with a severe manpower shortage, with 23,320 sanctioned posts lying vacant across the state, according to information obtained under the Right to Information (RTI) Act.
The shortage is most acute in the ranks of police constables and police sub-inspectors, raising concerns over law and order and increasing workload on existing personnel.
The RTI information revealed that against a sanctioned strength of 2,40,634 personnel in the state police force, only 2,17,314 posts are currently filled, leaving 23,320 vacancies.
The highest number of vacancies is in the police constable cadre, followed by police sub-inspectors and other ranks.
