Mumbai, April 28 -- A local court in Sindhudurg on Monday sentenced Maharashtra minister and BJP leader Nitesh Rane to one-month jail in a case in connection with the 2019 assault on a government engineer.

The court, however, stayed the operation of its order after Rane's lawyers on Tuesday said they would prefer an appeal in the higher court after receiving a certified copy of the order.

Additional sessions court judge VS Deshmukh in its order delivered on Monday sentenced Rane and other accused after they were found guilty of assaulting a public servant under IPC section 504 (intentional insult meant to provoke a breach of public peace).
