Mumbai, Aug. 11 -- In a decisive push to overhaul and streamline Maharashtra's higher education system while enforcing a strict policy to eliminate academic isolation and bureaucratic fragmentation, Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil has directed all public universities across the state to adopt a uniform academic calendar and roll out the foundational framework for the fourth-year honors degree programs starting from the 2026-27 and 2027-28 academic sessions.

Chairing a high-level review meeting with vice-chancellors in Mumbai, Patil emphasised that standardising academic operations and breaking down institutional silos is critical to the seamless, effective execution of the National Education Policy (NEP).
