Mumbai, Aug. 2 -- In a significant legislative development, the Maharashtra Freedom of Religion Act, 2026, officially came into force on July 30 following its publication in the state gazette after receiving the assent of President Droupadi Murmu.
The newly enacted law introduces stringent measures against unlawful conversions-particularly those driven by force, fraud, allurement, or deceitful marriage promises.
