Mumbai, May 22 -- State Chief Electoral Officer, S Chokalingam, today clarified the Election Commission's position regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) programme of voter lists in Maharashtra, after the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) raised objections about the process.
Under this campaign, details of about 9 crore 86 lakh 44 thousand 413 voters in Maharashtra will be verified through a door-to-door survey, he told reporters here.
Chokalingam said that the SIR process in the state will be implemented very transparently and no eligible voter's name will be removed from the list. Also, the 2002 voter list will be put in front of the voters, he said.
