Baramati, April 23 -- Voting began on Thursday for the by-elections in Maharashtra's two constituencies -- Baramati in Pune and Rahuri in Ahilyanagar. The Baramati seat fell vacant due to the death of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar in a plane crash, while the Rahuri seat became vacant following the demise of BJP MLA Shivaji Kardile.
Ajit Pawar's wife, Sunetra Pawar, who is also the state's first woman Deputy Chief Minister, is contesting from Baramati. In Rahuri, Shivaji Kardile's son, Akshay Kardile, is in the fray. Sunetra Pawar and her two sons Jay and Parth cast their votes for the Baramati by-election. In Ahilyanagar, BJP-led Mahayuti candidate Akshay Kardile cast his vote early in the day.
