Gondia, June 6 -- A 31-year-old youth was killed in a tiger attack while collecting fodder for goats in a forest area near Kalpathri village in Maharashtra's Gondia district, officials said today.

The deceased was identified as Duleshwar Santosh Kharkade, a resident of Kalpathri village in Goregaon tehsil.

According to local sources, Kharkade had gone to the nearby Kalpathri forest area, as part of his daily routine, to collect leaves for his goats when a tiger allegedly lying in wait suddenly attacked him.

He died on the spot due to severe injuries sustained in the attack.

The tiger reportedly dragged his body nearly 500 metres deeper into the forest after the incident.
