Mumbai, July 13 -- Two youths from Pune district drowned at Devkund waterfall in Raigad district, officials said on Monday.

A search operation is underway to trace them.

The youths were identified as Gopal Ramrao Rathod (24) and Vishnu Dhok (23), both residents of Chakan in Pune district.

They were part of a 21-member group that had gone to visit the popular waterfall at Patnus village in Raigad district.

Officials said the two entered the water for a swim but were swept away by the strong current. They apparently could not judge the depth of the water.

Rescue teams, police and local villagers immediately launched a search operation. Senior local officials also reached the spot, while a rescue team from Kolad was called to help.
