Nagpur, Sept. 16 -- Two 13-year-old boys drowned in a pond while participating in Gauri immersion festivities in a village in Maharashtra's Nagpur district, police said on Wednesday.

The deceased were identified as Ayush Harish Kumre, a Class VIII student and Darshan Dhanraj Lad, a Class VII student.

Both were residents of Zilpa village of Katol taluka and were associated with Jai Bhavani Krida Mandal as kabaddi players.

Police said the incident occurred around 11 a.m. on Tuesday when women from the village had gone to a pond in the adjoining fields for Gauri immersion. Several children had also entered the water during the ceremony.
