Chandrapur, June 30 -- : A tiger was found dead under suspicious circumstances in Maharashtra's Chandrapur district on Tuesday, with forest officials suspecting electrocution and possible poaching after an electric wire was found on its body.

The carcass was discovered along the Sawli-Sindewahi road near Kanhalgaon village when electricity department workers were carrying out repair work on power lines damaged in recent storms.

Officials said the tiger is believed to have died either late on Monday night or in the early hours of Tuesday.

Forest officials said the presence of an electric wire on the tiger's body has raised suspicion that it may have been electrocuted using an illegally live wire.
