Kolhapur, Nov. 1 -- Shiv Sena (UBT) and environmental groups called for a shutdown (bandh) in Karjat on Monday, November 2, to protest against the large-scale felling of trees for Gujarat-based Torrent Power's proposed 3,000 MW pumped-storage hydroelectric project in Saidongar and Kotwal Khalati areas of Raigad district.
Shiv Sena (UBT) workers, alongside local villagers, environmental activists (including actor Sayaji Shinde), and political figures, have organized the Karjat taluka-wide strike to protest the ecological damage in the Western Ghats.
