Buldhana, Oct. 29 -- Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) MLA Sanjay Gaikwad has sparked a controversy by urging people not to attend the funerals of farmers who die by suicide, claiming that the fear of their bodies being left to be consumed by animals could deter others from taking the extreme step.
The Buldhana legislator made the remarks at a press conference in Maharashtra on Tuesday while responding to a query about a recent statement by a politician who had apparently used an expletive inadvertently while discussing farmers' suicides.
