Nagpur, Oct. 19 -- Symbiosis International (Deemed University) has placed a professor from its Nagpur campus on forced leave after a former female student accused him of sending inappropriate messages and urging her to adopt Islamic religious practices, a senior university official told UNI today.

The controversy has prompted protests by right-wing organisations, including the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), which have demanded the professor's removal and stringent action against him.

The university said in a statement issued on Sunday that it had constituted a high-powered committee to investigate the allegations and would decide on further action after receiving its report.
