Mumbai, June 2 -- BJP leader and former member of Parliament Dr Kirit Somaiya has written to the BrihanMumbai Municipal Commissioner and the Mumbai Police Commissioner, urging them to stop the practice of offering Namaz on city roads, claiming that it causes inconvenience to the public and raises law-and-order concerns.

In a letter dated June 2, Somaiya described the offering of Namaz on public roads in Mumbai as a "serious problem". He alleged that the practice obstructs traffic movement and forces nearby shopkeepers to shut their establishments during prayer time. According to him, such instances occur every week in several parts of the city and amount to a misuse of public space.
