Mumbai, July 18 -- In an extraordinary special sitting held today, the Bombay High Court took suo motu cognisance of the bail granted to Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) corporator Ramesh Mhatre and four other accused in alleged assault on three resident doctors at a civic hospital in Kalyan town of neighbouring Thane district, and set aside the bail order.

A division bench, comprising Acting Chief Justice Ravindra Ghuge and Justice Gautam Ankhad, directed Mhatre to surrender before the investigating agency by 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 19, observing that the matter warranted immediate judicial intervention in view of the seriousness of the allegations and the circumstances in which bail had been granted.
