Mumbai, July 30 -- A security guard at a housing society in neighbouring Navi Mumbai city apologised after a dispute over the use of the Marathi language sparked protests by workers of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), officials said today.
The incident occurred at the NRI Complex in Seawoods, where the guard, identified as Purushottam Singh, allegedly got into an argument with a Marathi-speaking autorickshaw driver.
According to the complainant, the guard allegedly refused to converse in Marathi and said, "Main Marathi bolunga nahi" (I will not speak Marathi). The autorickshaw driver further alleged that he was assaulted when he attempted to record the incident on his mobile phone.
