Mumbai, July 4 -- In a significant push to bolster female entrepreneurship and strengthen safe public transit, the Maharashtra government today announced an ambitious expansion of its 'Pink E-Rickshaw' scheme.

Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare informed the State Legislative Council that the state has set a target to provide at least 5,000 women with e-rickshaws in the current fiscal year.

The initiative, which began as a pilot project in 2024 across eight major cities-including Pune, Nashik, Nagpur, Ahilyanagar, Amravati, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Kolhapur, and Solapur-is now slated for a wider rollout, covering municipal council areas across the state.
