Mumbai, July 14 -- A tourist was rescued from drowning by a team of lifeguards after he ventured deep into the sea in an inebriated condition and was caught in strong waves at Alibag beach in Maharashtra's Raigad district, officials said on Tuesday.
The tourist, identified as Shahrukh Sheikh, around 30 years old and a resident of Kelvali Phata in Pune, had reportedly entered the sea after consuming alcohol.
According to officials, Sheikh went nearly 100 to 150 metres into the sea before he was caught in strong currents and high waves. Unable to return to the shore, he began struggling in the water and was in danger of drowning.
Lifeguards stationed at the beach noticed the tourist in distress and immediately launched a rescue operation. ...
