Akola, Sept. 22 -- : In a significant verdict, the Akola District and Sessions Court today sentenced a man to death for the brutal murder of his estranged wife and nine-year-old daughter in a case that shocked the city.
The judgment was delivered by District and Sessions Judge Tejwantsingh Sandhu.
The convict, Manish Kisanrao Mhatre (35), a resident of Deshmukh Fail area in Akola, was found guilty of killing his wife Rashmi Mhatre (30) and daughter Mahi Mhatre (9) with an axe on April 24, 2024.
According to the prosecution counsel, Mhatre had been living separately from his wife for nearly five years due to family disputes and suspected her character.
