Mumbai, July 24 -- Torrential monsoon rainfall over the past two days has caused widespread flooding across Palghar district, claiming two lives and forcing large-scale rescue operations in several affected areas. A total of 244 people have been rescued so far as floodwaters inundated villages, damaged houses, disrupted transport and severed connectivity with more than 200 villages.
In view of the continuing heavy rainfall and flood-like conditions, the district administration has ordered all schools and educational institutions in Palghar to remain closed on Friday as a precautionary measure.
