New Delhi, July 23 -- India have secured their first medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games even before the opening ceremony in Glasgow.

Olympic bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain is assured of at least a bronze medal after receiving a direct entry into the semifinals of the women's 75kg boxing event.

The Commonwealth Games officially begin late on Thursday in Glasgow, Scotland, with the opening ceremony scheduled for the early hours of July 24 (IST). However, India's medal tally is already guaranteed because of the draw in Lovlina's weight category.
