Chennai, Aug. 3 -- India's infrastructure financing requirements are far beyond what government budgets could carry, making long term private capital indispensable to building assets that could support the country's economic growth over the next two to three decades, Chief Economic Advisor to the union Government Dr Anantha Nageswaran said on Monday.
The union Government's capital expenditure had increased from around Rs 2.5 lakh crore seven to eight years ago to over Rs 12 lakh crore in the current budget and including grants that created assets in the States, the effective figure was close to Rs 17 lakh crore", he said at the CII organized Tamil Nadu Infrastructure Summit 2026 held here today.
