New Delhi, July 22 -- Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee was suspended from the Lok Sabha for the remainder of the Monsoon Session on Wednesday after the House adopted a resolution holding him guilty of using unparliamentary language against a woman member during a heated altercation inside the chamber.

The disciplinary action came after a confrontation between Banerjee and members of the Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI), including Mitali Bagh, Shatabdi Roy and Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, all of whom were formerly associated with the Trinamool Congress before joining the newly formed outfit. The resolution suspending Banerjee was passed by a voice vote amid noisy scenes in the House.
