Thiruvananthapuram, April 28 -- Kerala is witnessing a return of power cuts as electricity demand rises sharply amid intense summer heat, placing heavy strain on the state's power grid.

According to sources, power consumption has touched record levels in recent days, driven by widespread use of air conditioners, fans, and other cooling appliances. In response to the surge, authorities have begun implementing power restrictions during peak evening hours.

Power interruptions of around 30 minutes are being reported in several areas, particularly between 6 pm and midnight, when electricity demand is at its highest. The situation has led to what is effectively load shedding in parts of the state.
