Panchkula, Aug. 27 -- Panchkula Police stopped a suspected interstate liquor smuggling operation from Chandigarh to West Bengal and Assam, seizing 268 boxes with about 2,500 litres of liquor worth nearly Rs 13.5 lakh, which were hidden under sports goods in a truck.

The Anti-Narcotics Cell, Panchkula, made the seizure after receiving secret information about the illegal liquor shipment.

The action happened during increased checks ordered by Police Commissioner IPS Pankaj Nain to stop smuggling of drugs and illegal liquor.

Anti-Narcotics Cell leader Saurav Rawat got information around 11.30 pm on August 26 that a truck carrying illegal liquor would travel from Chandigarh through Majri Chowk to the highway.
