Kolkata, June 20 -- The Life Insurance Corporation of India (LICI) has issued a notice to Suruchi Sangha, a leading club run by former Trinamool Congress leader and former West Bengal Minister Aroop Biswas, directing it to vacate the land it has allegedly encroached upon by July 18.
The directive has also been pasted on the walls of the club, which organises a big ticket community Durga Puja annually.
Earlier this month, the life insurance behemoth alleged that the club authorities have forcibly occupied 21 cottahs of land belonging to it and lodged a complaint at the Alipore Police Station.
Aroop Biswas and his brother Swaroop Biswas had allegedly occupied four plots belonging to LICI in New Alipore by leveraging their influence.
