Prayagraj, Aug. 1 -- The Allahabad High Court has observed that licensed firearms cannot be used for celebratory firing at weddings, religious events or other occasions, and stressed that every licence holder must maintain a complete record of cartridges purchased and used.
Dismissing a petition filed by Akhilesh Kumar, a single judge bench of Justice Saurabh Shyam Shamshery upheld the cancellation of the petitioner's firearm licence, observing that obtaining a gun licence is a privilege and not a right.
The court said a firearm licence is not meant for celebratory firing to express joy at weddings or religious functions, and such use amounts to a direct violation of the licence conditions.
