Srinagar, May 17 -- In a landmark welfare decision, the union Territory administration of Ladakh has approved long-awaited wage rationalisation for thousands of daily wagers, part-time and seasonal workers, with Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena directing that wages be paid in accordance with the Government of India's Minimum Wages Act.

The move is expected to bring major relief to workers who had been surviving on meagre monthly payments of Rs 300 to Rs 500 despite serving the administration for over a decade. Many of these workers had been working for more than 10 to 15 years for such low pay.
