Bhubaneswar, Sept. 2 -- A seven-year-old male leopard, named 'Veeru', has joined the I.G. Park Zoo of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), arriving from the Greens Zoological, Rescue & Rehabilitation Centre (GZRRC), Vantara, Jamnagar, Gujarat.
The leopard was formally named 'Veeru' in the presence of senior officials of Rourkela Steel Plant following its arrival at the zoo.
Scientifically known as Panthera pardus fusca, the leopard was born on May 13, 2020. It travelled nearly 2,400 km by road from Jamnagar and reached the I.G. Park Zoo on August 28, 2026.
The leopard was escorted from Jamnagar to Rourkela by Dr A. Biswas, accompanied by keeper Sameer Kujur. It has since been housed in the designated leopard enclosure at the zoo.
