Srinagar, Sept. 24 -- A shutdown was observed across Leh today to mark the first anniversary of the September 24 violence in which four people were killed and nearly 100 others injured during protests demanding statehood and Sixth Schedule safeguards for Ladakh.
Markets remained closed and public transport stayed off the roads as people observed the anniversary. A rally was also held in Leh, with Ladakh leaders paying tribute to those killed in the firing.
Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk renewed his demand for the findings of the judicial inquiry into the violence, saying the truth had remained suppressed even a year after the incident.
